Iconcache

I’v been having a small icon problem recently after a Virus attack, the virus destroyed most of my programs and as you can see my desktop icons. The weird thing is that sometimes the icons do show up, but most of the time I get a default windows icon. The problem seems to be a corrupt Icon cache, I’v searched for a solution on the internet and found one for Windows XP and Windows 98 & Me.

Windows XP

Start > Execute

Insert “cmd” and hit enter

Type “cd %HOMEPATH%\LOCAL SETTINGS\APPLICATION DATA\” and hit Enter

Type “attrib -h Iconcache.db” and hit Enter

Type “del Iconcache.db” and hit Enter

Restart your computer

Windows 98 & Me

Start > Execute

Insert “cmd” and hit enter

Type “cd %SystemRoot%”

Type “attrib -h ShellconCache” and hit Enter

Type “del ShellIconCache”

Restart your computer
